Fixing I-95,
Drive by Drive.

SCDOT is taking a comprehensive approach to fixing the drive on I-95.

I-95 is a vital gateway to South Carolina – connecting our state to the entire East Coast. SCDOT is committed to the success of I-95 through these statewide projects in expectation of significant growth over the coming decades:

9 Interchange Improvements & 36 Miles of Widening

Expanding I-95 to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at key interchanges

95 Miles of Resurfacing & Preventive Maintenance

Extending pavement life and improving ride quality with resurfacing and routine repairs

42 Bridge Improvements

Replacing or upgrading bridges to support future traffic and freight needs

103 Miles of Safety Improvements

Improving the clear zone, the area of the roadway that allows a vehicle to regain control or stop safely if it leaves the roadway

SCDOT is paving the way to a stronger, more economically vibrant SC.

Interstate improvements on I-95 are part of a larger effort to move South Carolina forward.

Our interstates are a critical component of our success as a state – the safe and efficient movement of goods and people provides the quality of life we enjoy in South Carolina and connects our economy with the world.

SCDOT developed a 10 Year Plan, which we have been implementing, to build projects that help put the system back into a state of good repair. To this end, SCDOT has dramatically increased its construction project work program, from $1 billion in 2009 to over $6.2 billion in 2024.

These improvements are part of a broader vision outlined in Momentum 2050, South Carolina’s statewide multimodal transportation plan. While the 10-Year Plan focuses on restoring the system to good repair, Momentum 2050 looks ahead to guide future investments and keep our state moving forward.

Our focus in the coming years is to position South Carolina for continued prosperity, and these projects along I-95 are a critical component of ensuring the state’s continued success.

Together, we are fixing the drive on I-95.
