SC I-95 Improvements from Ridgeland (Exit 22) to US 17 (Exit 33)

SCDOT is evaluating ways to Fix The Drive on I-95 between Exits 22 and 33 while planning for future growth in this corridor. This is the third project near the South Carolina/Georgia border in a series of planned improvements throughout I-95 in South Carolina. Project Description

SCDOT is proposing improvements on I-95 from Ridgeland (Exit 22) to US 17 (Exit 33). The purpose of this project is to improve capacity and mobility along the 11-mile corridor of I-95, and to address operational deficiencies for interchanges and bridges within the study corridor. This means providing more space that’s better configured to move people and goods throughout the corridor.

Why is this project needed? The region is growing and is anticipated to continue growing, with more residents and economic opportunities. This means more traffic is expected on I-95, and we need to plan improvements to accommodate for future growth.

Project Status

We are in the Design Phase of the project development process conducting a Categorical Exclusion for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

What happens during the Design Phase?

Project schedule is subject to change. Updated February 2025.

This project is currently in the design phase. During this phase, we are going through the federal environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Because of the limited number of anticipated impacts to the human and natural environments, SCDOT is currently conducting what is called a Categorical Exclusion. Traffic Counts: Complete

Traffic Studies: We’re currently looking at current and anticipated traffic to help identify proposed improvements.

Public Information Meeting: In the fall of 2025, we plan to have a public information meeting to get your input on the proposed improvements and make sure we have taken into consideration all the historic and cultural resources in this area. Stay tuned for more information.
