SCDOT proposes to remove station/open graded friction courses (STA/OGFC)—pavement structures with a high degree of friction and replace with cross slope correction and stone mastic asphalt (SMA). Cross slope correction is designed to optimize drainage and safety issues, and SMA is a resistant, durable surfacing material.

Additionally, SCDOT proposes rehabilitating the bridge deck over Pocosin Swamp #1. For remaining bridges, SCDOT proposes completing concrete patching and epoxy overlay—a sealant formulated to withstand extreme levels of traffic and severe elements.
